Scheduling your travel to the U.S. : Visa J-1 recommends you to arrive to the U.S. at least 2 or 3 days before the beginning of your Trainee/Internship Program. This will allow you with some time to settle down into your new environment.

Money: You are required to bring at least the amount of funds listed on your Form DS-2019 with you to the U.S. This amount is $1,200 or higher. You should plan on a minimum budget of at least $1,000 per month to cover rent, food, personal expenses, etc.
